Nojima Scuola: A Multi-Purpose Complex in a Renovated Elementary School
Located on the west coast of Awaji Island, Nojima Scuola is a multi-purpose complex that opened in 2012 after the renovation of the former Nojima Elementary School, which had closed due to declining enrollment caused by an aging population and low birth rate.
Welcoming a large number of visitors each year and beloved by the local community, it has become a symbol of regional revitalization and one of the most popular tourist spots on Awaji Island's west coast.
The facility offers a stylish Italian restaurant, a bakery showcasing the concept of sixth-order industrialization of agriculture, and a marche filled with fresh Awaji Island vegetables — providing a wide variety of ways to enjoy your visit.
Incidentally, "Scuola" in Nojima Scuola means "elementary school" in Italian.
▼ The exterior retains the charm of the original school building, delighting the inner child in everyone.
How to Enjoy as a Group
Savor a Farm-to-Table Italian Course
Ristorante Scuola offers authentic Italian cuisine that beautifully showcases local Awaji Island ingredients, prepared by a master of farm-to-table cooking.
Supervised by Chef Masayuki Okuda, who was selected as one of the world's top 1,000 chefs, the restaurant serves authentic Italian dishes that bring out the full flavor of Awaji Island vegetables, seafood, and Awaji beef.
The dishes, made generously with seasonal ingredients carefully selected by the chef himself from Awaji Island — a treasure trove of fine produce — are not only exquisite in taste but also visually stunning, creating a truly special dining experience.
