Nojima Scuola is a complex facility renovated from a former elementary school

Nojima Scuola, located on Awaji Island's West Coast, is a complex facility that was erected in 2012 to replace the previous Nojima Elementary School, which had closed owing to a decrease in student enrollment caused by a low birthrate and an elderly population.

Located on the west coast of Awaji Island, it is a well-liked tourist attraction that attracts lots of visitors annually and acts as a symbolic foundation for the community.

The appeal is that you may enjoy a variety of activities, including a beautiful Italian restaurant, a bakery where you can experience sixth industrialization and a market with fresh veggies from Awaji Island.

Interestingly, the meaning of "scuola" in Nojima Scuola signifies elementary school in Italian.

Explore the tour to learn about the effective implementation of closed schools and agriculture's sixth industrialization.

Nojima Scuola is more than just a tourist attraction; it is also a model for community rejuvenation that addresses social challenges such as declining birthrates and an aging population.

The Nojima district was especially critical of Awaji Island, which is said to be a microcosm of Japan, with a dropping birthrate, an aging population, and a rapidly shrinking population.

Nojima Elementary School was closed in 2010 due to a decline in student enrollment, but since the opening of Nojima Scola in 2012 as a tourist facility using the closed school, it has become a popular destination for visitors from outside the island as well as a symbol of the community for residents.

In this context, local governments and regional development businesses from across Japan visit the site.

The study tour itinerary includes an introduction to Nojima Scola initiatives for local development with an attendant.

▼Nojima Scuola's legacy lives on within its facilities.
