The “Awaji Island West Coast” area has become one of the most popular regions on Awaji Island in recent years, known for the opening of new attractions and restaurants. Surrounded by lush mountains and the stunning views of the Seto Inland Sea and Harima-nada, this area offers breathtaking sunsets (recognized among Japan’s Top 100 Sunsets) and star-filled night skies from scenic hillsides.

Access

Reach Awaji Island in as little as 1 hour from the EXPO venue

Located in the northern part of Awaji Island, the West Coast area is ideally positioned just across the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, which connects the island to mainland Honshu.

It takes approximately 65 minutes by bus from the EXPO 2025 Osaka-Kansai site.

In addition, a direct boat ride from the EXPO venue to Awaji Island takes approximately 60 minutes, providing a scenic and relaxing alternative route.

Not only is Awaji Island accessible for a day trip from Osaka and Kobe, it is also conveniently reachable from major transportation hubs such as Shin-Kobe Station, Shin-Osaka Station, and airports including Kobe Airport, Osaka Itami Airport, Tokushima Airport, and Kansai International Airport. This makes it a popular destination for visitors from across Japan and around the world.

Following the easing of Japan’s border restrictions in October 2022, a group of 10 Chinese-American tourists visited Awaji Island as part of an 11-day trip across Kansai and Shikoku. Their final destination before returning to the U.S. was HELLO KITTY SMILE, where they enjoyed media art, shopping, and dining by the sea.
